Back to school can be both an exciting and challenging time for students and families. We hosted a special Back-to-School event for the families to ensure they were well-prepared and supported as they embark on the new school year.
Empowering Families with Knowledge and Support
Our Back-to-School event was designed to equip parents with the knowledge and tools they need to help their children succeed. Parents had the opportunity to engage in interactive sessions where they could ask questions and receive guidance on various topics, including navigating the complex educational system, effective communication with teachers, and utilizing school resources. These discussions were aimed at making the school year smoother and more manageable for both students and their families.
150 Backpacks Distributed to Students
One of the highlights of the event was the distribution of 150 backpacks filled with essential school supplies. For many newly arrived immigrant families, purchasing school supplies can be a financial strain. By providing these supplies, we wanted to ensure that every student in our program starts the school year with confidence and the tools they need to succeed. The excitement and joy on the students’ faces as they received their backpacks were truly heartwarming!
Preparing Students Mentally: Back 2 School, Back 2 You
We held an online session titled “Back 2 School, Back 2 You” aimed at preparing students mentally for the new school year. This virtual session was led by licensed therapist Laki Mahamud and focused on addressing the emotional and psychological aspects of returning to school. The event provided students with practical strategies for managing stress, setting goals, and staying motivated throughout the school year. It was an important opportunity to help students build resilience and confidence as they navigate the challenges of the academic year.
